Altair (Nasdaq: ALTR), a global technology company providing solutions in simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), and artificial intelligence (AI) is hosting a free to attend virtual event dedicated to engineering and design innovation in the heavy equipment industry. The online event, taking place on Wednesday 5th May, is aimed at equipment manufacturers across the agricultural, construction, mining, on / off-highway and rail industries; with an aim to reveal how simulation and design technologies can be leveraged to maximise equipment productivity, reliability, safety, and comfort, while innovating in a highly competitive market.

The event will commence with a series of keynote sessions starting with CNH Industrial who will discuss the evolution of numerical simulation in the era of autonomous driving testing in agriculture. They will be followed by mobility specialist, Pratt Millar, giving their insight into tire modelling for the accurate prediction of off-road vehicle dynamics on soft soils.

The half day event will then split into four parallel technical sessions, covering key topics and emerging trends for heavy equipment manufacturers. Track one, featuring leading rail companies, TransANT and SNCF, and joined by propulsion specialists, Magna Powertrain, will discuss the use of simulation technologies to minimise weight, maximise payload, improve fatigue life and reduce manufacturing costs.

Track two will focus on simulating machine dynamics, and enhancing noise and vibration performance, as well as revealing and demonstrating rapid simulation technologies that can provide design teams with valuable feedback on the performance of a vehicle structures in just a few seconds. The track will include presentations from UK commercial vehicle body specialists, Don-Bur and multidisciplinary engineering firm, Viro.

Track three covers a specialist area of simulation technology known as discrete element modelling (or DEM for short), where engineers can study machine-soil interaction and the handling of granular materials such as crops or bulk materials seen in the mining, mineral processing and metals industries. Speakers in this track include Zoomlion Heavy Industry who will discuss the use of such technologies to optimise a threshing system of a combine harvester; Iowa State University demonstrating the modelling of the interaction of a bulldozer blade with soil, and the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) who will give insight into the digital prototyping of commodity processing and handling equipment.

The fourth and final track covers equipment connectivity, engineering data science and use case for artificial intelligence and Internet of Things in the industry. Featuring presentations from Altair’s own technical specialists, expect to see some fascinating uses for the huge amount of data collected by engineering teams during the development of new products.

The event concludes with a live and interactive panel discussion with the event’s speakers, giving the audience a chance to ask questions and gain feedback to help improve their own design processes.
