SERC Pioneering Skills Development to Support Manufacturing Industry

SERC pioneering skills development to support manufacturing industry
Manufacturing companies can benefit from specialist mechatronics training at South Eastern Regional College (SERC), after it was named the only accredited Siemens Mechatronics Training provider within the United Kingdom and Ireland. The collaboration between SERC and Siemens to offer the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Programme (SMSCP), will equip engineers in the precision engineering, mechatronics and electronics sectors, with the latest skills base and help manufacturing companies increase efficiency. This industry-focused training programme has been designed to meet the increasing demand for highly skilled technicians within the manufacturing engineering sector. SERC Principal and Chief Executive Ken Webb explains: Our collaboration with Siemens illustrates our commitment to deliver world-class training and our dedication to supporting the manufacturing industry. This partnership creates a significant opportunity for manufacturing businesses within the UK to develop the latest and highest quality technical skills that are so in demand. David Wheeler, Learning and Development Manager, Siemens Digital Factory, Process Industries and Drives said: Siemens is proud to be partnering with SERC in bringing this innovative mechatronics skills solution to their learners. It will make a significant contribution to the College’s skills portfolio and provides a solid foundation to build the advanced manufacturing skills we need for the future.” SERC Head of School for Computing and Engineering Trevor Breadon explains: With little specialist mechatronics training available, SERC are addressing the skills gap through delivering a programme of classes to meet the needs of the sector, improving efficiencies and in turn reducing down time.  Developing the technical ability of engineers is key to ensuring continual innovation so this will give the industry a significant and much needed skills boost. Travel and accommodation packages are available from all major UK airports. For more information contact Andrew Megarry on 074075 56658 or email amegarry@serc.ac.uk
