Leeds Firm Creates New Jobs after Investment

Leeds Firm Creates New Jobs after Investment

A Leeds manufacturing firm has created 35 new jobs and grown after a press investment.

The spring and pressings specialist, European Springs & Pressings Ltd, has announced a growth of 10% for the year so far and has created the new jobs after investing in a new high speed precision press.

The company based in Leeds provides pressings, wire forms, springs and assemblies to a client base across the world and has secured a series of new orders after the installation of its first Bruderer high speed precision BSTA 500-110 press.

The new investment will give the business a much bigger press bed area of 1.1 metres for multi progression tooling of complex processes, while the machine’s high precision construction will offer reduced die wear, particularly on high tensile spring quality materials.

The press’ B control system has also cut down on set up times, which reduces the time to market on new products and makes small volume production batches more efficient.

This capability has already seen the company win new business in power distribution, electronice, aerospace and automotive sectors.

European Springs Managing Director, Stuart McSheehy, commented: We have experienced significant growth through the acquisition of a number of new product programmes, requiring us to invest in a more flexible machine that offered speed, accuracy and repeatable quality.

I gave a ‘wishlist’ to Bruderer UK, who sat down with us, examined what we needed from the new press and recommended the BSTA 500-110, promising it could be operational from January 2016.

The BSTA 500-110 is seen as one of the most advanced high speed precision presses in the world and is fitted with semi-automatic stroke length adjustment.

European Springs made slight changes to the machine in conjunction with Bruderer UK, including the integration of ‘Unidor’ tool and press monitoring technology and the addition of an acoustic sound booth.
