Furmanac Announces New MD

Furmanac, the UK’s largest manufacturer of adjustable beds and the foremost manufacturer of lift-and-recline chairs, has announced it has appointed a new managing director. Buzz Pattar had been Production Director at the company for 7 years though he will now take the reigns at the top, replacing John Hillard.

The company was founded nearly 50 years ago, 24 of which were led by Hillard. During that time, Furmanac has developed a number of innovative furniture products, including the motion bed for which it remains to sole manufacturer in the UK. Hillard said he was delighted at the decision to the appoint Buzz Pattar, saying he would be a more-than capable MD to Furmanac. And having already accumulated a wealth of experience at the company, Pattar has an in-depth understaing of Furmanac’s products and ambitions though is sure to bring new enthusiasm and drive over the coming years.

Commenting on his appointment and being successor to John Hillard, Pattar said he had learned a great deal from him and went on the describe it an honour to take his place as MD.

The company continues to attribute much of its success and longevity to the strength of its leadership. Its founding forefather, Reginald Hillard had different aspirations for the company which originated as a component supplier for the furniture manufacturing sector. It was when John Hillard took over in 1992 that Furmanac became a furniture manufacturer and bed specialist to rival any, patenting pioneering new products at the turn of each year. Under his direction, Furmanac also generated a huge £15m turnover last year, somewhat far-removed from its humble, family-run beginnings. All eyes will therefore be on Buzz Pattar as he steps into the limelight, an appointment expected to bear further diversification for the West Midlands company.

Buzz Pattar has been MD Designate for the past eight months, during which time he is said to have steered the company toward a sales target of £18m. Under his leadership, Furmanac has also featured in the London Stock Exhange’s 1,000 Companies to Inspire.
