BAE have cut 1,00 jobs as part of the reduction in production levels of the Typhoon aircraft. Reports have suggested that the large manufacturing company, BAE Systems will be cutting more than 1,000 jobs over the course of this week as part of plans to slow down production of the aircraft.
BAE is a defence contractor and it is thought that the manufacturing giant will make the announcement soon. The redundancies are expected to take place across the businessâ UK workforce. It is thought that the majority of these job cuts will take place at BAEâs Warton factory in Preston, the main location for the manufacture for the Typhoon fighter jet.
BAE Systems works to deliver some of the worldâs most advanced, technology-led defence solutions. The company also offers aerospace and security solutions, manufactured by their skilled workforce of 83,100 people working across 40 countries. In the UK, BAE is thought to currently employ 34,600 people.
The job cuts that have been reported on today are thought to be a part of the ongoing slowdown in the production of BAEâs Eurofighter Typhoon. There has also been uncertainty speculated about in regards to the timing of a recent order of 24 Eurofighter Typhoons from Saudi Arabia. It is thought that more news about these redundancies will be released in the coming days. The timing of these job losses is expected to have an impact on the economy and with predictions that the news could become official later today or tomorrow.
The rumours of BAE Systems cuts follow recent disappointing news for the aircraft manufacturing industry as it has been revealed over the weekend that Bombardier will be subject to an even higher import tariff that previously thought by the US. The tariff, previously expected to be a whopping 220% is now predicted to increase to around 300%.
