RIBA Announces ‘House of the Future’ Shortlist : The shortlist has been announced for the six architect firms in Taylor Wimpeyâs âhouse of the futureâ design competition.
The competition is being run for the house building firm by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which has said that it received an excellent response to the challenger Taylor Wimpey has set out.
Taylor Wimpeyâs Project 2020 involves an evaluation of the innovations and trends in design, methodology, materials, technology and architecture with the aim of shaping the range of Taylor Wimpey for 2020 and beyond.
The following six entries have now been shortlisted to progress to the next phase of the competition:
Origin 3 Studio, Bristol
Openstudio Architects, London
Newground Architects, London
More Design, London
Igor Russo and Razvan Andrei, London
Artform Architects, Manchester
The teams will now carry on working on their design proposals and will be invited to attend an interview in September this year.
Glenn Howells, an adviser at RIBA, said that the group has received in excess of 100 entries, which were of a very high standard and stimulated much debate in the panel.
He added: After many hours the judging panel managed to select a shortlist of 6 terrific submissions, each of which stretched the concept of what the house could be and how it could best relate to changing technologies and patterns of living.
John Gainham, Divisional Managing Director at Taylor Wimpey, said that the firm has been impressed with the responses received for the competition which left the panel with some tough decisions to make in selecting a six team shortlist.
Gainham added: Each of the final six offers a different approach and I am looking forward to seeing how each team develops their concept at the next stage.
Meanwhile, RIBA has also announced the best British architecture projects of 2016 with projects ranging from a countryside villa to social housing for elderly and disabled residents.
