London Luton Airport (LLA) has become the first site to install weldless railings from steel railing and fencing manufacturer Zaun.
Zaun has worked in partnership with Top Security Fencing to make and market its patented Apex weldless rial.
Luton Airport has surrounded the edge of its hangar area with around 600 metres of Diamond-to-View Apex railings which are up to three meter in height, with sections of the railings that sit on top of breeze blocks just 1.8 metres in height.
Zaun has also supplied two emergency escape gates and two pairs of double gates, with the company manufacturing the railings at its factory in Wolverhampton.
Here, the firm has enhanced the tool which is used to lock the vertical tubes into the horizontal rail frame to make assembly quicker for its workers.
Zaunâs new tube laser cutter ensures that holes are cut neatly and cleanly in the horizontal rails through which vertical tubes are dropped and then âexpandedâ through the use of this special tool.
The Apex solid panel railings can fit square or round vertical pales with solid joints to the concealed connections and horizontal rails between panels and posts, which produce clean lines with no visible fixings. Meanwhile, currently being developed by the company is a ranking panel.
Apex railing panels come galvanised with the option of an Elite PR1 formula guaranteed polyester resin single coat in a choice of over 50 colours â while for harsher sites, the Elite EPR dual coating system is recommended.
Meanwhile, Luton Airport has extended its free wi-fi facility along with the introduction of several new phone charging stations.
The wi-fi service is provided by Arqiva and will allow passengers to access complimentary internet access for up to four hours, which is considerably longer than Stansted (one hour) and Gatwick (one and a half hours).
