How MPB Industries’ Unique Coating Process is Helping Anaesthesia to Become Safer and More Precise

Real-time manufacturing visibility brings new opportunities for increasing factory productivity, efficiency and cost control

MPB Industries makes precision flowmeters, calibration cylinders and flow tubes, however, it is the unique formulation and application of the coating of their tubes that has got customers in the medical equipment industry, excited. All flowmeters should have an anti-static permanent conductive coating applied to both the inside and outside walls of the glass to facilitate earthing. Not all do, or if they do, the quality can vary drastically. MPB Industries’ point of difference is the highly specialised application of the coating. Unable to find machinery that would effectively deliver, they decided to build their own.

Jason Bennion, MD of MPB Industries, commented: “Our unique way of producing the high-quality coating was borne out of customer’s desire for extreme accuracy and reliability in life-or-death situations such as when using the tubes for anaesthesia in human and veterinary medicine. Customers were coming to us because of their frustration with the quality of product elsewhere.  All our products are made here in our Kent factory, and we ship around the world.”

Lawrence Willis, Engineering Manager, said: “We couldn’t find machinery that produced exactly the desired end result, so we decided to make our own. Maybe that’s unusual but it’s certainly effective!  We would rather spend the time getting it right and ensuring the quality and precision is there. I think it’s important that we are still a country who is able to manufacture.  All our products are made in the UK to our design or to match the customer’s bespoke requirements. “
