Ford have revealed their highly anticipated new GT ’66 Heritage Edition, which is an even more special variant of the GT super car.

More than 6,000 customers have already put down a deposit for the GT super car, and now the company has made this special model available for the first year of production.

Paying tribute to the 1966 Le Mans winning Ford GT40 Mk2 car, it borrows the well known livery of shadow black with graphics and silver stripes from the number two car.

As well as the unique paint work, the ’66 Heritage Edition also comes with 20 inch forged aluminium wheels which have a satin gold clear coat finish. These wheels are part of the exterior changes that are said to produce a ‘modern interpretation’ of the iconic race car.

The American car manufacturer has also made some modifications to the interior that help the ’66 Heritage Edition to stand on its own away from the regular Ford GT.

Among the main interior changes are the seats. The seats found in the standard GT are carbon fibre and covered in ebony leather with unique stitching and feature pillow inserts. The instrument panel also features ebony leather, as well as the head liner of the cabin and windscreen pillars.

The seats’ X-braces, instrument panel and shift paddles also feature gold accents which are a throwback to the 1966 Le Mans winning car, also featuring leather wrapped seatbelts and steering wheel which have a unique blue webbing effect.

Some less obvious interior changes include exposed carbon fibre for the centre console, air pods and door sills, an interior door graphic mirroring the ‘number 2’ logo on the car’s exterior and a unique serialised identification plate.

A company spokesperson revealed that the limited edition will be available in all markets, including the UK, and will only be constructed for the 2017 model year of production.
