The UK’s leading manufacturer of perimeter fencing panels and industrial welded mesh Siddal and Hilton Products has been recognised as one of the UK’s ‘Best Companies’ to work for. This marks the first time the company has received this award, achieving one star accreditation for the ‘world-class employee engagement’ of its 60-strong workforce.
Recognised all over the country as a standard of excellence for UK businesses, the respected ‘Best Companies’ scheme assesses workplace engagement, which is measured against the Best Companies Index score. The factors included in the scoring system are leadership, wellbeing, and personal growth. According to the scores, Siddall and Hilton Products ranked amongst the top 10 manufacturing companies, the top 50 companies in the Yorkshire & Humber region and the top 75 small companies in the UK.
“Since the MBO three years ago, the business has undergone a transformation with significant investment in equipment and process improvements, along with cultural change aimed at empowering our team and ensuring that they come along with us on our growth journey,” explained Chief Executive Ian Thurley. “To have been recognised by such a prestigious national scheme as a company which is ‘very good to work for’ is a real achievement, showing that we have been able to create a highly engaged and committed team.”
After a difficult period throughout the pandemic disruption, Siddall and Hilton Products returned in 2022 with a strong financial performance. Thanks to the increase in global steel prices following the pandemic, the company achieved a turnover of £25.3 million for the year ending 31st March 2022.
In the first half of the year the company saw the overall operating efficiency drop slightly, because of the investment in a fifth specialist welding machine and the recruitment of new mesh operators. However, by the final six months, it witnessed significant improvement.
“The company is about to embark on a hugely ambitious strategic programme to grow and diversify the business, with the aim of creating a high-performing, sustainable business that is set to provide secure and rewarding employment for many generations to come,” concluded Ian Thurley.
