IET’S Engineering Open House Day Is Back

IET'S Engineering Open House Day Is Back

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is teaming up with organisations across the country again for this year’s Engineering Open House Day, taking place on Friday 29 July.

Now in its seventh year, Engineering Open House Day is one of several initiatives that make up the IET’s Engineer a Better World campaign, which encourages children to discover how exciting the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) is and find out about the huge variety of creative and stimulating careers in modern engineering.

The IET aims to help children aged 5-13 and their parents/guardians understand what it’s like to work as an engineer or technologist by working with a wide range of organisations across the UK, who open their doors for one day to hold interactive exhibits, events, talks and workshops that encourage children and their parents to think differently about engineering and technology.

“From the music you listen to and the phone in your hand, to the clean water you drink and the innovations that are helping to restore our oceans, engineering and technology are at the heart of everything,” said Christopher Knibb, Head of Communications at the IET.

“Whether young people are into sports, music, fashion, flying, healthcare, or improving our climate, we want them to know that there’s a place in engineering and technology for them and Engineering Open House Day is all about showing young people and their parents just how diverse and incredible the world of STEM really is.”

STEM companies across the UK are getting involved by putting on exciting events in their local area to inspire young people and their parents/guardians.

The IET will also be hosting its own event at IET London: Savoy Place, with interactive exhibits, plus live shows with exciting experiments and talks from some very special guests!

With the support from organisations across the country giving exclusive, behind the scenes access, children can see first-hand how engineering and technology are applied in a range of roles and jobs across different sectors and feel inspired about the breadth of creative and innovative careers on offer.
