Walter Expands Its UF4 Geometry Portfolio

With the UF4 geometry, Walter is launching a turning insert suitable for universal use on the market. The newly added versions – GX24…F…S; DX18…F…S – represent another addition to the range. Unlike the existing cutting inserts, the new inserts for the GX24 and DX18 grooving systems are now available with single-sided UF4 geometry for the first time.

The tool can be used:

  • For all grooving, parting off and groove turning operations in the average feed range
  • For all machining directions (radial and axial)
  • For internal and external parting off and turning

This prevents the second cutting edge from cutting the component again at cutting depths greater than the insert length (18 or 24 mm). At the same time, the new, single-edged collets can be used in the same grooving tool as the previous double-edged versions at cutting depths of up to 32 mm. With cutting insert widths of 3–6 mm, they represent a valuable addition to the overall range (2–8 mm).

The most unique feature of the UF4 geometry is the highly positive chip formation, which guarantees optimum chip control and outstanding surface finishes on ISO M, S and P materials. In ISO M and S materials, in particular, this feature works in harmony with the Walter precision cooling in order to produce excellent results. It is also suitable for universal use. The UF4 geometry can be used in all Walter Cut standard groove turning toolholders for a variety of tasks and to meet a wide range of requirements and machining conditions – from large-scale production all the way to batches of just a single item.

Users from an extensive range of sectors can benefit from high-quality chip breaking and excellent surface quality, particularly in finishing operations. The Tiger·tec® Silver cutting tool materials that are used guarantee high cost-efficiency and a long tool life.
