The Government campaign that will celebrate the world of UK engineering in 2018, âThe Year of Engineeringâ, has won itself a new supporter – the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA). The MTA represents the companies that make and supply the technology that manufacturers use to create and make the products people use and rely on.
UK is known for its engineering ingenuity and is one of the leaders when it comes to technological breakthroughs. It is our responsibility to champion engineeringâs present and future. All of the companies, suppliers, institutions and funders who have signed our letter, recognise how vital it is that we attract new talent in to the engineering sector and by coming together we can amplify support for this excellent project, said James Selka, CEO of the MTA.
Other companies that have signed this letter include BAE Systems, Renishaw, Yamazaki Mazak, Siemens, and DMG Mori. Furthermore, the campaign is also supported by many respected UK institutions, such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, and the University of Huddersfield.
James continued showing his appreciation for the campaign by saying: As a trade association and as the team behind the UKâs largest industrial showcase â MACH 2018 â which will be held in April, we feel the time is right to shine a light on all that is great and good in UK engineering and ensure we continue to be world leaders in this field. Therefore, we wholeheartedly support this campaign to make 2018 The Year of Engineering.
The national campaign aims to increase awareness and understanding of what engineers do among young people aged 7-16, their parents, and their teachers. The UK Space Agency has offered to fund a series of projects that will inspire interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with £210,000.
