RAFT Chairman Stepping Down

RAFT Chairman Stepping Down

It has been confirmed that Francis Gugen, the Chairman of medical research charity RAFT (Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust), will step down from his role at the end of this year. Gugen has been in business for 40 years now and has enjoyed a successful career, but he has decided that the time is right to move onto pastures new and allow for fresh ideas to be introduced to RAFT to take the organisation forward.

RAFT is celebrating 30 years of creating new products and ways to improve the quality of life for people who have suffered severe injuries in 2018, and Gugen’s departure paves the way for new and exciting concepts to be brought forward as a way of preparing for the next 30.

Francis Gugen has commented, In May 2017, I will have been Chairman of RAFT for seven years, a Trustee for the last decade and a supporter for over twenty years. I am still as passionate about the work that RAFT does and its ability to change lives as I was when I first became involved and I will continue to be a supporter, but as a firm believer in innovation, I want to give others the chance to bring fresh ideas and thinking to RAFT to set the charity on a successful path for the next 30 years.

The current RAFT CEO, Leonor Stjepic, added, Francis has been one of the best chairmen I have ever worked with and he will be a sad loss to RAFT. However, I am delighted that his connection to RAFT will continue as the new Chairman of Smart Matrix Ltd (SML) – the company that RAFT set up to commercialise one of its inventions and thereby take it to patients. With Francis as the new Chair, I am confident that SML will be a success.
