First Data Center Providers in Europe and Colocation Facility will be Deployed Using Open Compute Project Open Source Standards : One of the first data center providers in Europe that also includes a colocation facility will be deployed using Open Compute Project open source standards. These open source data center standards are promoted around the world by technology giants such as Facebook, Intel, and Rackspace. Currently, vendors are launching OCP-Based It solutions with increasing frequency. These IT solutions need to be housed in data centers like the Switch Datacenters.
Switch Datacenters is a European provider of tailor built corporate data centers as well as enterprise-grade colocation facilities. The company announced their new data hall at the Amsterdam colocation facility, Switch AMS1. This new hall is compatible for Open Rack Systems that are based on Open Compute Project Principles.
The Switch AMS1 Expansion is located at the Internet junction in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The new data hall for Switch Datacenters provides an extra 10,763 sq. ft. of colocation space. This is ideal for Switch AMS1, which is a facility with Tier 4 specifications. This new data center has the power capacity of 2MW across the 10,763 sq. ft. of floor space.
Alongside the Open Compute Project principles, Switch Datacenters has been able to design and also deploy a data center layout that is highly modular as well as energy efficient and easy to maintain. This data center layout is calculated at pPUE=1.04.
Key features of Switch Datacenters OCP-specified data hall includes and open rack V2 available onsite, Hot aisle containment, Lithium-ion batteries available on rack level, wiring located at front sides of the racks, Private suite options for 50 racks, Option for disabling UPS in line with OCP requirements. Other features of the facilities include Elevator suitable 21 OCP racks including pre-installed equipment. The facility is built so that there arenât any ramps in the data hall corridors and there is an entrance height of above 2.40 meters as well as a high floor load capacity.
