Engineering consultancy experts Amec Foster Wheeler have signed a contract with EDF Energy which means that their services will now be used as support for the coal plants, gas storage sites and the gas fired power station as part of EDFâs Coal, Gas and Renewables Division (CGR). Working under a Technical Support Alliance Agreement, Amec Foster Wheeler is one of only two companies that will be supporting EDF Energy on a strategic basis at the moment, and they will also be supporting EDF Energy Renewablesâ UK wind farms as part of the deal.
Our role is to deploy our technical capacity and capability to improve EDF Energyâs operational and commercial performance at all levels and support its aims and objectives for safe, reliable operation said Dawn James, who is the Vice President of Amec Foster Wheelerâs Nuclear Generation and Defence business. The award enables us to build on the capability and services that we have brought to EDF Energyâs nuclear feet for many years. We aim to become a key partner to EDF Energyâs coal, gas and renewables business by providing high quality, cost-effective solutions to their challenges.
Pressure systems management, steam turbines and the and the turbo alternator plant are all included within the agreement between the two companies in regards to what the services will be used for, as well as electrical plant management, civil engineering requirements, the gas turbine plant and the control efficiency, performance and reliability management.
So it seems like this deal that has been struck up will be very positive for both companies, and the two are likely to form a successful working partnership and move onto big things together in the future. But will we be seeing EDF Energy using more consultancy companies in a similar way to this partnership at some point? It seems likely, but we will have to wait and see if anything else develops.
