A West Midlands construction company has officially broken ground on a major £31.5 million development for a major client.
Amphion Construction, which has manufacturing plants in both Tipton and Walsall, won the contract to deliver the next-generation Fleet Management Centre for Toyota Material Handling UK (TMHUK) at Old Dalby Business Park, Leicestershire.
The team from Amphion Construction, boasting more than 300 employees, will develop the purpose-built 175,000 sq ft facility over the next 12 months, where the multi-million pound site will showcase modern production and workshop areas, sustainable office accommodation, extensive indoor and outdoor storage, and a secure yard.
Stewart Bowen, Chairman of Amphion Group, said completion was targeted for early next year, subject to planning approval.
He said TMHUK currently processes more than 12,000 trucks per year at its existing Old Dalby site, and the upgraded facility is expected to support the continued growth of the company’s refurbished truck operations.
Mr Bowen said: “Our group proudly employs more than 300 skilled professionals, all based in the Black Country, where we have grown into a leading force in UK construction and manufacturing.
“For this project, Amphion will have between 60 and 70 team members on site at any one time, supported by its integrated supply chain and in-house manufacturing divisions.
“Two of Amphion Group’s companies will play critical roles, Superior Sections – delivering the full office fit-out and supplying steel components including purlins, whilst CAF Limited will be handling roofing, cladding and the complete external envelope using materials manufactured within the group.
“Delivering a major facility in just 12 months despite the complexity and scale of the development, Amphion is targeting an accelerated 12-month construction period. This is made achievable through its controlled supply chain, integrated manufacturing capability and the coordinated deployment of expert teams across the entire project lifecycle.”
Mr Bowen, founder of the group, said the contract was a huge win for the West Midlands, the Black Country and for Leicestershire.
“For Leicestershire and the wider Midlands, the project represents another significant investment in regional employment, advanced manufacturing and long-term economic growth,” he added.
Amphion Group started in the Black Country in 2005 and has since grown into a powerhouse of integrated construction and in-house manufacturing, winning contracts in industrial, commercial, residential and community developments across the UK. When the group celebrated its 20-year anniversary last year, Mr Bowen said: “It’s our people, our local manufacturing facilities, and the projects we’ve delivered across the UK that have made this journey possible. As we look to the future, we remain committed to innovating, investing, and creating spaces where communities and businesses can truly thrive.”
