Silverstone Park, a leading destination for advanced engineering, innovation and high-performance technology businesses, has partnered with Akoje Gallery to commission two major outdoor sculptures by acclaimed artist Cristina Morbi and her London studio Maetherea.
Titled Land of Currents: Magnetic Field and Wind Rose, the works will explore how natural forces inspire technological innovation – particularly within the realm of advanced engineering and motorsport, a core theme of Silverstone Park.
The sculptures will be installed in summer 2026, ahead of the British Grand Prix.
Akoje Gallery, co-founded by England, British & Irish Lions and Saracens rugby captain Maro Itoje and Khalil Akar, is leading the commission as part of its broader ‘Paint The Game’ campaign.
This initiative seeks to use visual art as a tool to connect the worlds of sport, culture, and education. By commissioning site-specific artworks and collaborating with athletes, artists, and institutions, Paint The Game aims to break down barriers between disciplines, encourage creative dialogue and spotlight the often-overlooked cultural narratives within sport. This partnership with Silverstone Park represents a bold step in bringing together engineering, motorsport and art.
The large-scale installations will serve as the first permanent artworks in a new art trail across Silverstone Park. Managed by Federated Hermes, Silverstone Park is home to a community of cutting-edge technology firms and adjacent to the world-renowned Silverstone Circuit, and has long been synonymous with high-performance innovation.
These sculptures will embody the Park’s engineering DNA – through materials such as carbon fibre, reused steel and other motorsport-grade components – while also contributing to the growing cultural and ecological landscape of the region. The sculptures will be positioned near to the main entrance to the F1 circuit and highlighted in the official ‘to do’ experiences during race week.
The Sculptures
Magnetic Field
An inhabitable compass sculpture using magnetic materials and environmental design to immerse visitors in the unseen forces that guide movement. Interactive features include magnet-responsive components, ferrofluid visuals, and ecological elements like hyperaccumulator plants.
Wind Rose
A radial, wind-responsive sculpture inspired by atmospheric mapping. Using stainless steel flexible rebars, Wind Rose invites community interaction and visually translates wind currents into a physical installation. It celebrates aerodynamics, navigation, and performance – key themes in both motorsport and environmental science.
Community Involvement & Contribution Opportunities
Silverstone Park and Akoje Gallery are inviting businesses, schools, and individuals to be part of this pioneering collaboration:
• Donate or supply off-cut materials such as hinges, carbon fibre, or metal to embed authentic Silverstone Park components into the sculptures.
• Contribute design ideas while the sculptures are still in development – your innovation can help shape the final form.
• Commission future works as part of the developing Silverstone Art Trail and join this new legacy of community-driven cultural projects.
More than just public art, these sculptures aim to spark dialogue between disciplines – between physics and aesthetics, sport and ecology, heritage and progress. Designed to inspire students, residents, engineers and visitors alike, they reflect the future-forward spirit of Silverstone Park and Akoje Gallery.
