North East Site Services Joins Leading Civil Engineering Network

NESS have joined the CECA

North East Site Services Ltd (NESS) have joined the Civil Engineering Contractors Association North East (CECA North East), the UK’s leading civil engineering trade association, reinforcing its commitment to professional excellence and industry collaboration.

CECA North East represents civil engineering contractors across the region, providing members with training, technical guidance, networking opportunities and industry advocacy. By promoting professional standards and sharing best practice, CECA North East helps contractors deliver high-quality infrastructure projects while addressing sector challenges such as workforce development, sustainability and health and safety.

Established in 2015, NESS has grown into a major regional provider of asphalt surfacing, pothole and highway repairs, large-scale commercial and industrial surfacing projects. The business employs 38 people and achieved a turnover of £8 million in 2024/2025, reflecting sustained growth and continued investment in people, plant and operational capability.

NESS delivers projects across the North East, with clients including Port of Tyne, Port of Tees and Sunderland City Council. Key recent projects include resurfacing and civils works on the A182 Washington Highway, Chartershaugh Bridge waterproofing and surfacing packages for Sunderland City Council, resurfacing at Dalton Park retail centre and works at Middlefields Waste Processing Facility. The company was recently approved as a supplier on NEPO’s Highways Surfacing framework enabling them to bid for all the local authority Highway surfacing tenders in the North East

Stuart Miller, director of CECA North East, said: “North East Site Services’ focus on quality, sustainability and workforce development aligns closely with the values we promote across the civil engineering sector.

“In joining CECA North East, NESS will have access to a wide range of training opportunities, technical guidance and networking events that help members stay at the forefront of industry best practice. Membership also allows companies to engage with key stakeholders, share knowledge and address common challenges such as skills shortages and environmental sustainability, which are vital for the growth and resilience of the sector in the North East.”

NESS operates alongside its long-established sister company, North East Concrete, which has been active for more than 20 years and runs its own asphalt, mortar and concrete plants. While NESS and North East Concrete operate independently, their complementary services enable efficient and integrated delivery of surfacing and civil engineering projects across the region.

Committed to sustainability, NESS has invested in fuel-efficient vehicles, modern plant and full recycling operations for asphalt and construction waste. The company has also digitalised its operations, moving to a fully paperless system with iPads, streamlining workflows, improving reporting accuracy and enhancing quality control.

NESS places strong emphasis on workforce development and future-proofing the business. The company employs several apprentices, training them as multi-skilled operatives and is committed to attracting a younger generation to civil engineering to address skills shortages across the sector.

North East Site Services was recently recognised at the CECA NE Annual Awards, where they were awarded Highly Commended for the Social Value Initiative of the Year for Supporting the Treehouse Early Years Centre.

Michael Atkinson, director at North East Site Services, said: “Joining CECA North East provides access to valuable training, industry insights and best-practice seminars, helping us strengthen our professional offering and continue delivering high-quality civil engineering and surfacing projects across the region.

“The business has had a very successful year and our forward order book is buoyant. We are going into 2026 in a very strong position and look forward to continuing to contribute to the North East’s infrastructure development.”
