Tamagawa Seiki Co., Ltd. is a globally leading tier one manufacturer and supplier to automotive markets where its tri-axis inertial measurement units (IMUs) are an essential technology for the latest generation of road vehicles enabling key features such as advanced safety systems, navigation and autonomous driving. Through its expertise in this technology Tamagawa also supplies IMUs for construction and agricultural machinery, logistics equipment and many other demanding motion sensing snd critical safety applications. Tamagawa’s recently launched TAG320 IMU series builds upon previous models for these industries to provide improved performance and competitive costs for the precise measurement of angular velocity (X, Y, Z), acceleration (X, Y, Z), and attitude angle (roll, pitch, and yaw).
Available with full technical support from Mclennan, Tamagawa’s UK distributor for industrial applications, the TAG320 series is available in a cost reduced standard version and a high precision version that significantly improves accuracy over preceding models.
The compact unit measures just 83 x 47.9 x 20 mm (LxWxH) and is housed in an IP67 protected case with a temperature rating of -40 to 85℃. An integral 4-pin MAP MAF sensor connector and two-hole mounting makes installation straightforward, and a mating connector/cable assembly is available. All versions require +8 to +32V DC power supply and a CAN Standard + Extensions communications interface (CAN2.0B) is provided. The data rate for 3-axis angular velocity, 3-axis acceleration (roll angle, pitch angle, yaw angle) is up to 1,000Hz. Both versions have angular velocity specifications of +/-200°/s with acceleration rates of +/- 4G for the standard version and +/- 6G for the high precision option. Full specifications are detailed in a comprehensive IMU brochure and a full manual is also available on request from Mclennan. Tamagawa IMUs enhance safety and precision in farming and construction machinery by detecting tilt angles and shocks, and when paired with GNSS, they enable accurate positioning, localisation and dead reckoning, opening up possibilities for unmanned operation. The TAG320 can be used for other types of machinery including logistics equipment such as factory AGVs and fork lifts. Other applications include light aircraft, drones, garden mowing AGVs and leisure mobility equipment. The TAG320 IMU series can also play a vital role in stabilisation and safety monitoring for cranes, bridges, and other large structures. Other products designed and manufactured by Tamagawa Seiki, and available from Mclennan, includes synchro resolvers, rotary encoders, stepper and servo motion components, as well as specialist surveillance camera positioning and underground inspection systems.
With its own in-house design and production capability, Mclennan works closely with selected distribution partners and customers to bring motion control and automation system solutions that are important enabling technology elements of the customer’s machine or process – aiming to deliver distinct benefits in performance whilst competitively maintaining high quality and reliability.
