New Hatfield Depot for Geotechnical Expert

Ground engineering specialist Geobear has announced the opening of a new depot in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The location is a second central hub alongside its existing facility in Cannock, and provides easy access to transport links to London and the South East of England, helping Geobear serve more customers in the region. The move comes after a summer of record temperatures and surging subsidence claims due to soft clay soil in the region.

The facility will also allow Geobear to respond to emergency jobs more quickly, fulfilling customer needs in a timely fashion and providing a more energised workforce that spends less time on the road.

In addition, using a depot closer to its customer base requires less transportation and reduced environmental impact, dovetailing with Geobear’s lower-carbon geopolymer solution compared to traditional underpinning methods.

The new depot, with refurbished office and kitchen space, now provides a central location to invite prospective customers to discuss their needs and possible solutions, and a facility to allow minor repairs to vehicles or for drivers to rest before returning home.

“Following an independent review, we have been looking for a new site to help benefit our customers in the south of England,” explains Dan McHale, vice president of operations at Geobear. “This facility provides great transport links, with easy access to the A1 and into London. We have immense growth plans for this business and the depot is a major part of the foundation of those plans.”

After receiving the keys in June 2025, the company has gradually consolidated the team from one of its smaller sites to Hatfield. Overlapping availability of the two sites has enabled a smooth transition, guarding against disruption for customers and technicians alike.

”The benefits to our hardworking technicians, engineers and support staff are just as important as the improvement to our delivery,” continued McHale. “Reducing travel times means fewer hours in the van driving. We made sure the new facility can be a comfortable place for Geobear colleagues to reset after a day’s work before they head home safely.”

Demand for subsidence solutions in the UK has grown substantially in recent years amid growing concerns around climate change. Having been in business for over 40 years, Geobear’s geopolymer resin injection in ground engineering projects can aid subsidence mitigation and infrastructure rehabilitation.
