Toray Industries, Inc., Toray Medical Co., Ltd., and PSP Corporation announced today that they have collaboratively developed a beta version of dialysis support features for PSP’s NOBORI, a cloud-based personal health record (PHR) app. The features are integrated with Toray Medical’s Miracle DIMCS dialysis management system. Pilot use has started at selected medical institutions.
An aging patient population is making dialysis treatment more complex, while a shrinking working-age population is fueling medical staff shortages. Streamlining treatment and easing the workloads of frontline caregivers have become critical challenges. This beta version of dialysis support features, addresses these issues by empowering patients to manage their own health information, build health awareness, and improve self-care.
Integrating Miracle DIMCS and NOBORI enables medical institutions to share information with patients, collect daily health data, and improve communication among medical professionals, thus streamlining operations and elevating patient care.
Medical institutions already using Miracle DIMCS will be able to access the beta dialysis support features that integrate with the NOBORI app as an optional service. Dialysis patients at participating institutions will be able to view their test results and dialysis-related data stored in Miracle DIMCS through the app. Those institutions will be able to view daily health information that patients record in the app, provided these individuals have consented to such sharing.
The dialysis support features let patients view medical information, record weight, blood pressure, and other vitals, add free-form notes, answer multiple-choice questions about fluid, salt, phosphorus, and potassium intake, recommended to be managed by each patient, and whether they experience itching. They can view time-series graphs of their data and send it with their consent, to Miracle DIMCS-enabled institutions where they receive dialysis.
Toray has helped bring this support feature to fruition by planning and designing a PHR framework for dialysis patients, coordinating development, and promoting beta deployment. Toray Medical is developing PHR integration functionality for Miracle DIMCS, while PSP is adding dialysis support features to the NOBORI app, which it also operates. These features should contribute to safer, more reliable dialysis care and improved quality of life for patients.
A NOBORI app incorporating dialysis support features will be demonstrated at Toray Medical’s booth at the 70th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy, from June 27 through June 29.
