Powdertech Surface Science makes two expert hirings

Leading technical powder coater, Powdertech Surface Science , has recently been joined by surface chemistry expert Dr Nicholas Welton as Technical Manager, and by Jimmy Phillips as Marketing & Sales Manager.

Nick, who was recently awarded a Fellowship from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3), has worked for Powdertech over the past 9 years. As well as helping to deliver successful projects for Powdertech’s customers, Nick has led the development of the company’s industry-leading test laboratory and pilot line facility.

These facilities have allowed Powdertech to contribute to research and development programmes with major OEMs such as JLR, BMW, Rolls-Royce and Volvo. Research subjects have included EV battery enclosure manufacture, aluminium cleaning using Titanium Zirconium (TiZr), bond durability of thin wall diecast aluminium, and the development of novel composite-to-metal bonding system Powderbond. Involvement in these projects has led Nick and Powdertech to become leaders in the field of technical aluminium surface treatments.

Jimmy Phillips, Marketing and Sales Manager has twenty years’ experience in marketing and commercial roles. He began his career at oil and gas consultancy firm Rhead Group (now part of Costain plc.) where he also completed his MBA, before working for industry bodies including the British Valve and Actuator Association. Prior to joining Powdertech Jimmy was Communications and Customer Marketing Manager for agricultural machinery manufacturer RootWave where he helped launch innovative electrical weed control products.

James Grant, Lead Director at Powdertech Surface Science, said: “Both these appointments are significant in our continued growth as the most technically advanced aluminium powder coating and surface treatment provider in the UK. Nick is the pre-eminent expert in commercial aluminium surface treatment and his knowledge and experience is invaluable. Jimmy is a marketing and communications specialist and well versed in communicating complex technical ideas. We are delighted that both Nick and Jimmy have joined our team and feel very privileged to have them on board.”
