RIAS/RIBA Awards Shortlist Revealed

RIAS/RIBA Awards Shortlist Revealed

The shortlist of entries for the 2017 RIAS/RIBA Awards has officially been revealed, with 27 hopefuls successfully making it through the first round of judging. The RIAS/RIBA awards were established as a way of improving the awards process in Scotland and to make it much simpler, as these awards now provide a one-stop submission process for business and individuals thanks to an agreement between the Royal Incorporation of Architecture in Scotland (RIAS) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The merger was set up in 2012, and any entry that is submitted into one of the categories will automatically be eligible to win the new RIAS Awards and Special Category Awards, as well as the RIBA Awards for Scotland and RIBA Special Awards. Any winning entries are also made eligible for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Awards, as well as the inaugural RIBA Stirling Prize. Willie Wyatt is the President of the Royal Incorporation of Architects, and he has commented, Year on year the quality of Scottish Architecture is on the rise. Despite an economic climate which continues to squeeze fees and challenge professionals’ ability to deliver, Scotland’s architects are delivering work of truly international quality to serve our citizens and communities. Last year’s Festival of Architecture shone a bright light on both historic and contemporary Scottish buildings, literally highlighting a tradition of excellence. That tradition continues and as this brilliant shortlist demonstrates, Scotland’s architecture is in very good heart. Willie Wyatt will be amongst the judging panel this year alongside Karen Anderson, Lorraine Landels, and RIBA’s Stuart McKnight. The shortlisted projects are now available to view online, with the likes of Michael Laird Architects, Richard Murphy Architects, Carson & Partners and Rural Design all amongst the nominees. All 27 will be hopeful of scooping up a prize at the awards dinner on 14th June 2017 at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, but we will have to wait until then to find out the all-important results!
